Exile - சாரு நிவேதிதா

Exile - சாரு நிவேதிதா
The book started off with a climax, then introduced characters in typical Charu style leaving me puzzled about who is who and where they fit. For example the character Pakkiri who I thought would be narrating the story to the end, didn't. But he left it to the character Udhaya, whom we can easily identify as the author in this auto fiction, took it to the climaxes. And also though Charu gives a couple of reasons for naming the book as Exile, I find it fitting in the way how Charu the writer of great calibre in his State goes much unappreciated. A writer in exile within his State. I completely agree with his reasoning on the same.

The novel though auto fiction fails to impress me as a whole story. But it had the interesting aspect of the author, the characters and supposed real life character (interacting) between each other. They question and reason to each other - many a times answering a question that could pop up in the readers mind. Sarcasm blends in Charu's narrative not letting us into an otherwise vague account of profanities of real life. Charu's supposed real friend or possibly an alter ego - Kokarakko - makes up most of the fun part in the novel. Especially in the exclusive description of his life in the end. But this
AUTOfiction also throws at us many life experiences and learning ranging from the varieties in latest women's fashion to the values in natural herbs and diet regimen given by Sithas (ancient saints) for healthy physical relationship. By the end Charu gives us a fair and satisfying ending for the characters that came throughout pretty clumsily.
